Progress. Lots of Progress [Week 3]
Today, a lot got done. Mechanical wise, we started breaking ground on building our lift. Backed by an armory of rivet guns (including a brand new pneumatic rivet gun) and a box full of red rivets, we got to work. So far, we've assembled a pretty large chunk of the main structure and several smaller portions that will eventually come together to form the lift for our robot (if you don't know why we're making a lift, check out last weeks blog post). We're looking to be in prett

Decisions and Competition... [Week 2]
Today was the big one for our FIRST Tech Challenge teams. All three of our teams--11745 Red Scare, 11761 Theory of Robotivity, and 13227 The Mechanicats--had a competition up in Wylie East today, which meant for a very early morning for all of us (we consider 6:30 AM bus rides very early here at the Robocats). At the time of writing this, the competition hasn't finished yet, so to stay updated on our achievements out on the playing field, make sure to check out our Facebook p

Prototypes Everywhere [Week 1]
As the first week of build season (our six week sprint to finish a robot in time) comes to a close, we've made pretty good progress. So much progress that we're actually holding to our FRC Schedule. What a concept. Jokes aside, we are really excited going into the second week. We have two of our three drive bases working, which gives our coders time to do their thing and work on driver-controlled code,. Meanwhile, in mechanical-land, the guys have been working hard to get a p

It Begins... [Week 0]
This past Saturday was, as many of you know, FRC Kickoff. A small group of us attended the kickoff up at Texas Instruments, while the remaining Robocats stayed back at HQ (Woodrow Wilson High School) to start work on brainstorming immediately. This year's game, called Destination: Deep Space, is a very unique game in many ways. From the lack of an autonomous period to the "Sandstorms", this year's game is a fresh breath of innovation as FIRST breaks away from a multitude of
